has been successful in advocating for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault, as well as supporting increased funding for specialized nurses around the state. She has added her signature to legislation to restore women&#8217;s reproductive rights, increase tenant protections, protect the Okefenokee Swamp, and prevent gun violence. Karen sees bipartisan cooperation as a key component of her job as she seeks to move Georgia forward.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karen lives in DeKalb County, in Chamblee, where she previously served on the Chamblee City Council and helped guide the city through the COVID-19 pandemic. As a parent of public school-educated children, she served as President of Chamblee Middle School&#8217;s Education Foundation and currently sits on the Dresden Elementary School Education Foundation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karen\u2019s professional background is rooted in the arts, specifically, music. Before reaching the State House, Karen was the Program Coordinator for Songs for Seniors, a therapeutic music program for elders with dementia at a nonprofit long-term care facility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her life before politics, as a classically trained singer, she performed for over 20 years in the Metro Atlanta area as a soloist, choir member and choral conductor.
